Tooth decay in children under six—known as Early Childhood Caries—is a serious global health issue, affecting nearly half of all preschool-aged children worldwide.
In New Zealand, studies show that around 42% of five-year-olds have experienced tooth decay, and this number has changed very little over time. The causes are complex and can include diet, access to dental care, and daily habits. However, one thing is clear: good brushing habits can significantly reduce the risk of tooth decay.
That’s where Tommy Tooth comes in.
Tommy Tooth was created to bring fun, joy, and understanding to oral health for young children. Through playful storytelling, Tommy helps encourage positive brushing habits and supports children in building healthy routines that can last a lifetime.
